PGA Rocket Mortgage Classic Odds, Picks & Betting Predictions (2024)

The final major of the golf season will be here soon enough, but in the meantime the tour has several stops to make. First up is Detroit Golf Club for the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Unlike last week’s elevated event this is a full field, with a lot of golfers who don’t get a ton of reps on tour. It’s an opportunity to target some lesser-known names in the betting markets, as most of the top-end players are taking an off week. This presents a new challenge of finding some potential winners among players who may not have many wins. Let’s go over the PGA best bets for the 2024 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

We have some information on what to expect from Detroit Golf Club. The first thing that stands out is some low numbers, as this course tends to be pretty favorable to players who can fill it up. The par 72 has numerous par 5’s that golfers will need to take advantage of, so par-5 scoring is something I’ll look at this week.

Most players will choose to be aggressive off the tee as there isn’t a ton of trouble and you can really get some short irons in your hands with a lot of these holes. Overall, it’s a driver heavy, par-5-centric birdie fest and if your players check those boxes, you might find yourself sweating on Sunday.

PGA Outright Pick #1: Cameron Young

Despite it being a very short price for a guy searching for that elusive win, Mr. 59 is worthy of a spot on the card. Young went crazy low at the Travelers, shooting sub-60 and almost getting himself a miracle victory in Cromwell. Despite not being able to make the comeback, it was a positive week for Young, who heads into this course with some momentum. His off-tee game is consistently strong, and he was runner-up here in Detroit back in 2022. He will be a popular choice this week, but it’s because he makes sense on a lot of levels.

The balance of a weak field like this is the numbers are worse, but the win equity at the top is wide open. Young at 16-1 isn’t a great feeling, but this field shows why it’s a playable number. He has some of the strongest tee-to-green numbers of anyone in the field, and given some of the form he showed last week, he is in a great spot to grab his first career win.

PGA Rocket Mortgage Classic Pick: Cameron Young (16-1 at DraftKings)

PGA Outright Pick #2: Adam Svensson

For weeks Svensson has grinded through some cuts without even being close to the top of the board. Normally it’s the putter that lets him down while the ball striking numbers do enough to keep him relevant. However, he is starting to put it together, and it might be at the perfect time for an outright play. Last week Svensson finished 16th at the Travelers and finally flipped the putter, gaining just over one stroke on the greens. Considering how bad Svensson was in previous weeks, this has to be taken as a major win and a potential sign of things to come.

Svensson has some experience in this layout in recent years, and although the results are average, I like the fact that he’s seen the course before. This is a buy spot on a guy I’ve been targeting a lot, but now I am willing to fully leverage him and put him on the outright card for a chance at a big-time payout.

PGA Rocket Mortgage Classic Pick: Adam Svensson (55-1 at DraftKings)

PGA Outright Pick #3: Alejandro Tosti

One of the best things about a weak-field event is you get to target golfers who normally wouldn’t make the card. Sure, the odds aren’t to the levels they would be in a stronger event, but the tradeoff is they have a much more reasonable shot of getting in the mix. Tosti has rarely, if ever, been on my outright card, but he made it this week at nearly 100-1. Tosti is a wild man, and with that comes insane upside if everything clicks. That’s the type of player I like to explore in markets like outrights, as the downside really doesn’t matter; we just want that ceiling equity.

Tosti is a straight bomber who leans immensely on his off-tee game. Since getting on tour, he has consistently gained strokes in that area, and I see basically no chance he doesn’t once again this week. The question is what other part of his game can get hot, as just driving the ball successfully will not be enough. In his runner-up finish at Houston, it was the driving and putting that carried him, and that is what I am hoping to replicate here. The risk is immense, but you aren’t going to find anyone near Tosti’s level of aggression off the tee at nearly 100-1, and there is not a better course to target a player who fits Tosti’s skillset.

PGA Rocket Mortgage Classic Pick: Alejandro Tosti (90-1 at DraftKings)
