It’s been a theme brewing early on the PGA Tour as we had another golfer win an event at 100-1 odds or longer. Whether Wyndham Clark continues to roll this weekend is irrelevant now, as his odds have tanked to win the WM Phoenix Open. The good news, with some heavy names including Scottie Scheffler, the odds are favorable for a couple of sneaky long shots billed around 100-1. Still, there’s a lot to unpack in our 2024 Waste Management Phoenix Open long shot bets.
If anything, the early swings in Hawaii and California have proven nearly anyone with longer odds has a shot. We head to Phoenix for one of the most unique settings across the entire PGA Tour, from stadium seating to loud fans, golfers who have never experienced this before could fall victim to the surroundings.
Course history is huge here, but so is ball striking and scrambling. For the first time this season, we put less emphasis on putting. Here is the best long shot play for this week’s WM Phoenix Open!

Shopping golf odds is a major advantage in picking winners as the numbers can vary, opening massive value. As we get deeper into longer odds the break isn’t as great as someone near the top, but it’s still worth looking around on OddsShopper for the best price. That’s where we find a range on Luke List, from 90-1 all the way up to 110-1 as an outright winner. It’s not going to be a stroll through the stadium for List, but he fits some major criteria here with a de-emphasis on putting.
The greens are tricky but not with the flat stick, rather getting to them. The desert conditions don’t allow for easy approach shots or scrambling around the green. This is where course history and knowledge of conditions comes into play for anyone in the field. What sticks out the most with List missing the cut in last year’s event is he gained strokes everywhere but on the green. He’s making the cut and possibly sticking around on Sunday if he could just drop a putt.
It’s been an unfortunate reality for List over his last three events, losing strokes on the green – some worse than others. But before that he was putting fine and it transferred over to the rest of his game. List caught a couple of T-20s and a win back at Sanderson Farms. The two things that put List in the category of a live dog are stabilizing his putting and staying a little more accurate off the tee. He’s going to make the cut and so long as he’s not losing on the green, he’s got a chance to make us some cash.
Best Waste Management Phoenix Open Long Shot Bets Outright Winner: Luke List (+11000, PointsBet)
Honorable Mention: Kevin Yu (80-1 BetMGM)
There seems to be a nice connection between golfers who are from the area of played locally in college. Taiwan native Kevin Yu spent time at Arizona State where former Sun Devils felt the warmth of the crowd, especially leading up the stadium seats. There’s no way around it, last week was an absolute disaster for Yu, struggling to make any putts on the poa grass, losing nearly three strokes on the green. That’s not what we’ve seen from Yu leading up to the AT&T Pro-Am, as he finished T6 at the Farmers and T3 at the Amex. We look for him to return to form in a friendly environment to both locals and putters.
