Taro Daniel enters Tuesday’s match against Thanasi Kokkinakis as the 111th ranked player on the ATP Tour. His best finish this year comes on the Challenger tour when he reached the quarterfinals in Cagliari this May. Daniel has had moderate success in the last two Grand Slams. He nearly made the Round of 64 at Wimbledon after getting in the tournament as a Lucky Loser due to player injuries. Daniel lost his opening Wimbledon match to Blake Shelton in five sets. He did reach the Round of 64 at the French Open when he ran into Carlos Alcaraz, but did take the top ranked player to four sets.

Daniel is a small underdog to Thanasi Kokkinakis, who is ranked 86th in the world. Kokkinakis had a poor showing at Wimbledon but reached the Round of 32 at Roland Garros in late May. He nearly ran into Daniel earlier in the year when he also made the quarters at Cagliari. The strongest element to Kokkinakis’s game is his serve. He has a strong ace rate that could perform well on the hard courts at the CITI Open and in other events he’ll play later this summer in the United States.

Although Kokkinakis is a clear favorite, the best Taro Daniel-Thanasi Kokkinakis bet comes in a match prop. This matchup’s odds to go Under 2.5 sets are -152 at FanDuel. OddsShopper’s model uses the sharpest books to find the true odds of a bet. The Daniel-Kokkinakis odds should be -152, leaving 3% positive expected value here. The bet should win roughly 62% of the time and is worth staking just under 3% of your bankroll using the Kelly Criterion for sustainable growth.
