Casper Ruud-Novak Djokovic French Open Odds: A Massive Favorite Emerges

Casper Ruud-Novak Djokovic Odds
BetMGM Odds: Djokovic -500 | Ruud +375
DraftKings Odds
: Djokovic -475 | Ruud +370
FanDuel Odds: Djokovic -330 | Ruud +260
Pinnacle Odds: Djokovic -458 | Ruud +380

As of publication, every book was quite high on No. 3 Novak Djokovic. The 36-year-old tennis superstar and former No. 1 player has won the French Open twice, once in 2016 and again in 2021. He’ll line up against No. 4 Casper Ruud, a 24-year-old Norwegian who lost in the finals here last year to Rafael Nadal.

Ruud is no stranger to success on big stages. Aside from his runner-up here last year, he also finished second in the U.S. Open and second in the ATP Tour Finals. He has 10 career titles to his name, and while he is still waiting on his first Grand Slam, he isn’t a walkover opponent like the betting odds suggest.

But for all of Ruud’s success, he is yet to beat Novak Djokovic. The two have squared off four times, most recently in last year’s ATP Tour Finals. Djokovic took the title 7-5, 6-3. Ruud is still looking for his first set win, let alone his first match win, against Djokovic.

Bettors should avoid taking the favorite at such short odds. For prospective Djokovic backers to make a profit, he would have to win more than 76.5% of the time relative to the odds at FanDuel Sportsbook and more than 82.1% of the time relative to the odds at Pinnacle, a sharp offshore sportsbook and solid reference point. Although Djokovic is an all-time great player, there just isn’t much room for positive expected value to be found at that price.

Instead of buying Djokovic, I suggest you head to BetMGM to back Casper Ruud at odds of +375. I suspect the market will slowly tilt toward Ruud as Sunday morning’s match approaches, largely because we are close to the highest the books should go on Djokovic. Ruud only needs to win this match more than 21.1% of the time for us to make a profit at that price. If you’re yet to sign up for BetMGM, you can get first bet insurance worth up to $1,000!
